Dr Ruth Harley has been an invaluable resource to me as a senior executive in the American green industry. She has coached me through several significant career changes. Her questions and insights have sharpened my own understanding of each step along the path. As a former CEO of several organisations, she and her teams have faced myriad strategic and operational issues. These stories of both what worked and what didn’t, lend credibility and depth to her feedback. Dr Harley has a terrific ability to “cut to the chase”. This has improved my focus on key messaging on a number of occasions, helping me to communicate a more compelling story. Last but not least, she has a great sense of humor and irony which helps leaven and make less stressful – even fun – any executive coaching session with her. Career choices and pitfalls are really serious matters but she helps one to keep it in perspective and get on with it.

Ruth has been my coach since approximately December 2013, initially in a pro bono capacity and later in a paid capacity (which I have personally funded). She has been outstanding in helping me navigate a senior executive career transition and in challenging my thinking during an intense start to a new CEO role. Often I have previously found that coaches use tools and frameworks to challenge your thinking with many having little senior executive experience themselves to draw on. Ruth is different in this way in that she draws on not only tools and frameworks used by others but is also able to impart her own experience as a successful senior executive in the corporate world and it is the latter that I have found incredibly valuable making it an authentic and ‘real world’ coaching experience as opposed to a theoretical one. Ruth’s ability to also delicately traverse both professional and personal issues is unparalleled from previous coaching experiences and once again this is something highly valued as we all know that personal matters can influence and impact professional decisions and directions. In summary, Ruth’s coaching has been invaluable to me over the past few years and I eagerly look forward to each and every session as I know it will lead to new insights and great results.

Dr Ruth Harley’s skilled and insightful coaching helped me to understand what I am good at and how these capacities could be framed as transferable skills, useful in many professional contexts. Tasks that she set for me helped me structure not only my time but my thinking about my goals and how to achieve them. Our meetings always left me with a sense of confidence and purpose that was invaluable to me when looking for work and continues to inform the ways that I approach new challenges. Excellent and uplifting coaching!
